It is a joy to share the African Road 2024 Annual Report, with sincere gratitude for your partnership in this life-changing work. The progress made in 2024 paved the way for many incredible projects, stories, and successes now present in 2025.
2024 was a significant year for African Road and for each of the Changemakers. The launch of an exciting initiative, ‘Strong Roots Together,’ encouraged and advanced the Changemakers in new ways. Learn more about the Strong Roots impact in each Changemakers’ section in this report. The annual report highlights the incredible work of the Changemakers in East Africa and it demonstrates what is possible through steady investment and respectful long-term relationships.
I think of Pascalia, whom I met in 2016 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She joined the New Hope for Girls family as a teenager, and while she carried a painful past, she also showed promise as a writer. With encouragement from Changemaker Consoler, she became the secretary of an African Road VICOBA Plus group—a role that strengthened her confidence and sense of connection (VICOBA Plus is a powerful program that transforms lives).
Today, nine years later, Pascalia is a devoted group member, a wife, and a mother. She has put VICOBA Plus principles into action, launching a successful convenience store known for its quality products and friendly service. Her determination and joy reflect the spirit of hundreds of women who have found their voice and a path forward through African Road and the work of our Changemakers.
