Changemaker Consoler Wilbert, also known as Mama Consoler, embodies hope and joy, as well as fierce resilience and strength. She is an unstoppable and inspiring force. As a survivor of domestic servitude and violence from a young age, Consoler transformed her pain into purpose and formed New Hope For Girls in Tanzania in 2005. NHFG empowers young marginalized girls and women through education, vocational training, and capacity building. More importantly, NHFG provides a safe space and a loving, supportive family.
Consoler is an advocate, lifeline, and parent to 46 girls and young women who have escaped gender violence and modern day slavery. Her vision and action sparks tangible change in her community. African Road is honored to celebrate this Malkia wa Nguvu for her newest recognition.
What is Malkia wa Nguvu, you ask? ‘Malkia wa Nguvu’ means ‘The Strongest Queen’ or ‘Queen of Power’ in Swahili. It is also the name of the annual award ceremony that recognizes and celebrates incredible Tanzanian women who influence, uplift, and empower their communities. These awards elevate the voices of inspiring women like Consoler with categories ranging from Science and Technology to Community Welfare. We are thrilled to share that Consoler was awarded the 2021 Hall of Fame ‘Malkia wa Nguvu’ for her outstanding and well deserved work on behalf of her girls.
Consoler received admiration from her community for these achievements. Her determination and success is greatly celebrated by her supportive husband, Eliya, every day. In a recent social media post, Eliya shared, “When you support your wife in her dream or her job, do so diligently and with a sincere heart. Success of one partner is a success for all.” Together, Consoler and Eliya are changing their community and transforming girls’ lives, and supporting each other along the way.
Congratulations Consoler! You truly are ‘Malkia wa Nguvu’!
